World Record Event - Largest Paper Boat Race!
As the 10th Anniversary of Leeds Waterfront Festival sails towards us, we thought that we better let you in on our little secret. An extra special event to celebrate the milestone, on the Sunday of the festival, we'll be holding our very own World Record Attempt! So make sure you get involved and don't miss out on the chance to get our name in that famous book!
With the generous support of Leeds Civic Trust, we are asking people to come and join us in a World Record Attempt to be held at Granary Wharf on Sunday 25th June. It'll be a fantastic end to what we think will be our very best festival yet!
We plan to break the current record for the BIGGEST ever paper boat race in the world! The number to beat is 250 and we need you to help us to succeed! Over festival weekend, we are inviting visitors to join us at special workshops to make a paper boat to enter into Sunday's race. No special skills required, our team will give you lots of help to fold your very own origami boat. The boats will be numbered and the lucky winners will be presented with trophies and prizes at the end of the race!
You can find our workshop on Saturday 24th June at Armley Industrial Museum, just pop along any time between 11 am and 3 pm to create your boat and enter it into the race. While you are there, take a trip out on a barge, listen to the bands and enjoy a voyage of discovery within the museum! You'll be able to take a pit stop to with food and drinks available from Grazers.
Our second workshop will be held on Sunday 25th June at The Tetley from 11 am to 2 pm. All the boats will be taken along to Granary Wharf to be entered into the race which will start at 3:30 pm sharp!
We are also inviting people to create a boat at home if they can't make the workshop. Make sure you get creative, as there'll be a prize for the best dressed boat too! Just bring your boat along to be entered into the race at 2:30 pm at Granary Wharf in preparation for kick-off!
