You can't help but fall in love with this hidden gem along the Leeds and Liverpool canal! It's our 10th Anniversary and covering a tremendous four mile stretch of waterway, Armley Industrial Museum really is the gateway to our festival!
A wonderful treasure trove of Leeds' textile heritage, Armley Industrial Museum is a popular destination for walkers, history lovers, families, schools and knitters alike! We love spending time here over festival weekend and it really is the perfect place to begin your journey along the canal and explore the wonderful Leeds waterway!
Over festival weekend, Safe Anchor Trust will be hosting FREE boat trips along the canal. There's no need to book, just head along to the museum over the weekend and enjoy a relaxing trip on the water, spotting birds and hearing stories about the history of the canal. The boat trips run from 11 am to 4 pm on Saturday and 12 noon to 4 pm on Sunday.
On Saturday we will be holding a paper boat building workshop in preparation for our very exciting World Record Attempt at Granary Wharf on Sunday. We need you! The number to beat is 250 and we have everything crossed that we make it into the Guinness Book of Records for the largest ever paper boat race in the world! Join us from 11 am - 4 pm on Saturday inside the museum to make your boat. Or if you prefer, you can make a boat at home and drop it off to us! You can download instructions here. There will be prizes for the boat race winners and the best dressed boat on the water for the race! The race takes place at Granary Wharf at 3.30 pm on Sunday 25th June...come and watch!
On Sunday Graffiti Artist HYROGRAFF will be at the Mill too, hosting a design workshop for young B-Boys and B-Girls to help design some new signage to tackle anti-social tagging and graffiti along the canal.
HYROGRAFF and his team will be out along the canal all festival weekend, working together to create an awesome piece of artwork to improve the environment at Wellington Road Bridge. This will be a fun creative workshop at Armley Industrial Museum is ideal for any young person that loves to draw and wants to develop their graffiti style skills. It will be held on Sunday at 2 pm - 4 pm and the designs created will be replicated on signage along the canal in a few weeks after the festival, so you'll be able to come back and see how well the designs turned out!
We guarantee you'll love spending time at Armley Industrial Museum, if you haven't visited before you will not be disappointed. Food and drinks will be available all weekend long from the friendly bunch at Grazers and we have a surprise or two up our sleeve too...but shhhh...you'll have to wait and see!
