Programme of events

Thwaite Mills


Thwaite Mills will be running the more family orientated side of the event.

Providing:
• Boat Rides From the Safe Anchor Trust
• Bouncy Castle
• Face Painting
• Fire Performers
• Balloon Modelling
• Clown Performances
• Music from local buskers
• Black Smith Demos
• Face painters
• Spinners of Aire
• Vintage buses
• At workshops for children
• Boat rides provided by the Safe Anchor Trust;
• Sea Cadets stand
• Bee Keepers stand

Alongside these activities, the mill and house will be offering free admission and parking. Visitors who have parked at this site will be able to join the rest of the festival at Brewery Wharf and Clarence Dock via water taxis provided by Kirkstall Fly boats and Leeds City Cruisers running every 30 mins or by vintage bus.




BREWERY WHARF

The Brewery Wharf event will be split in to 2 days and will feature a wide variety of entertainment, the theme of the event is Summer on the Waterfront and this will be reflected throughout the festival.

SATURDAY 11TH

The events on the 11th will be set against the background of a large Artsmix market selling locally produced arts and crafts running around the site at Brewery Place and down on to the waterfront.

The entertainment provided for the Saturday is as follows:

Stage acts:
• Bayou Gumbo (Cajun/Bluegrass band)
• Pretty Polly’s Beard- (Ceilidh/Irish Band)
• Jenny Smith (Soul/Motown Singer, featuring full backing band)
• Dudley Nesbitt (Pans player and drummer featuring full backing band)
• 12.00 -1.00 - Dudley Nesbitt (Pans player and drummer featuring full backing band)
• 1.15 - 2.15 - Jenny Smith (Soul/Motown Singer, featuring full backing band)
• 2.30 - 3.30 - Pretty Polly's Beard (Ceilidh/Irish Band)
• 3.45 - 4.45 - Bayou Gumbo (Cajun/Bluegrass band)

Performers:
• Bespoke performance Art written by students from National School of Contemporary Dance, performed intermittently throughout the day.
• Performances from Leeds University Circus School featuring unicyclists, jugglers etc.
• A Variety of impromptu performance pieces spread throughout the festival sites

SUNDAY 12TH
Sunday’s events at Brewery Place will be centred around our Jazz theme for the day, with a smaller Artsmix market running around Brewery Place and an Artsmix arts walk along the waterfront.

• Cherie Gears (Jazz Vocalist and full band)
• James Mainwaring (Contemporary Jazz quintet)
• Monkey See Monkey Do ( Modern dance floor driven Jazz)
• Leeds Youth Jazz Rock Orchestra (Orchestra of Young Leeds based Musicians set up by Education Leeds, playing a variety of contemporary Jazz in order to promote their charity work in Durban S.Africa
• James Mainwaring 12.00 - 1.00 (Contemporary Jazz quintet)
• Cherie Gears 1.15 - 2.15 (Jazz Vocalist and full band)
• Monkey See Monkey Do 2.30 - 3.30 ( Modern dance floor driven Jazz)
• LYJRO 3.45 - 4.45 (Orchestra of Young Leeds based Musicians set up by Education Leeds, playing a variety of contemporary Jazz in order to promote their charity work in Durban S.Africa)

Performers
• More of the same from the Circus School
• The Waterfront art walk as well as exhibiting the work of local artists, the artwalk will also feature young up and coming Jazz musicians playing acoustically amongst the artists spread along the waterfront.
Across the 2 days there will also be a full programme of water based events
• Narrow Boat parade – Beginning at Thwaite Mills Granary Wharf the narrow boat parade will travel along the canal to Clarence Dock, finishing at Thwaite Mills, featuring 20+ dressed boats reflecting the ‘Summer Time on the Waterfront’ theme.
• Canoe Water Polo match
• Sea Cadets demonstrations TBC
• Leeds Rowing Club demo’s and taster sessions TBC
• Theatre Group performance on a series of large barges
The bars around Brewery Place will also be offering deals, offers and entertainment throughout the two days as well as refreshments and food.
A Public Arts Project will also be exhibited throughout the duration of the festival, along with demo’s from local business such as creating chaos a new company promoting city centre fitness out of the gym and the Environment Agency stall discussing Leeds flood defence plans.





Clarence Dock

Stages
• Saturday 11th July – 12.00 am – 9.00 pm
• Sunday 12th July - 12.00 am – 6.00 pm

Entertainment throughout the 2 days
• Waterfront Art Walk (Sunday) made up of local artists exhibiting and selling their work against a background of local Jazz performers playing acoustically.
• Local Buskers performing around the site
• Artsmix market along the waterfront running in to Clarence Dock displaying locally produced hand made arts and crafts.
• Water based Events-
• Boat parade featuring dressed boats starting at Clarence Dock
• Canoe Water polo match
• Water taxis running throughout the festival connecting sites

Dance
Performance on a stage from a range of local dance companies and performers

• African drummers for peace Songo performing with African dancers.
• Urban Angels performing on ‘Fruit Juice’ on their arial rig.
• Arbeau historical dancers performing a series of Medieval dances including interactive Medieval workshops.
• Flamenco performance and interactive workshops.
• Bollywood performances and workshops.
• Phil Sanger performing his latest dance piece, which will be later performed at the Royal Opera House.
• Slanjayvahdanza dance company performing their piece ‘Blind Passion’
• Salsa performance Latintastic and interactive workshop from Tanya Cusan from Cusan Theatre Productions

All of these dance acts will be performing across the two days on the Clarence Dock Stage along with much more local dance, for more information see the festival programme on the day.
